Applying Discounts & Promotions
Reduce a sale price using a manual cart discount or automatic promotion rules.
What You'll Learn
- How to apply a manual discount amount to the entire cart
- How automatic promotions work at the POS
- How to verify a promotion has been applied correctly
Before You Begin
- You are on the Cashier screen with at least one product in the cart
- To create promotion rules, you need owner-level access (see the note below)
Step 1: Add Products to the Cart
Search for the products and add them to the cart as normal. The cart total is shown at the bottom of the cart panel.
Step 2: Enter a Manual Discount Amount
In the cart panel, locate the Discount Amount field below the cart total. Type the discount value you want to deduct from the order total. The field accepts a fixed amount in SAR.
The cart total updates immediately as you type — you can see the new total before completing the payment.

The Discount Amount field applies a fixed deduction to the entire order. If you need a percentage-based or item-level discount, ask your owner to configure a promotion rule instead.
Step 3: Verify the Cart Total
After entering the discount, confirm that the displayed total is correct before proceeding. The discount is deducted from the subtotal, and VAT is recalculated on the discounted amount.
Step 4: Proceed to Payment
Select a payment method and click Pay as normal. The receipt will show the original subtotal, the discount deducted, and the final amount paid.
How Automatic Promotions Work
Promotions are rules configured by the store owner (for example: "10% off all beverages" or "Buy 2 Get 1 Free"). When the cart contains products that match a promotion's conditions, Point applies the discount automatically — no cashier action is required.
When a promotion is active on a cart item, the cashier sees the reduced price directly on the product line. A promotion badge or indicator may appear to confirm the rule was triggered.

To create reusable promotions (percentage, fixed amount, Buy X Get Y), see Creating a Promotion. Promotions are configured in the dashboard and apply automatically at the POS — cashiers do not need to enter any codes.
Summary
Point gives you two ways to discount a sale: a quick manual discount entered directly in the Discount Amount field for one-off reductions, and automatic promotion rules configured by owners that apply whenever matching products are in the cart. Both methods update the cart total in real time before payment is taken.
